Bipolar Bear
2004-Present

Founded with ex-members of The Manifolds, Rose for Bohdan, Amazing Custom Caravans, and various other outfits, the Bipolar Bear is hardly stable. Sometimes, the Bear hibernates, and sometimes the Bear gets all amped on caffeine and anti-depressants and beats dudes up at the local dive-bar. Swampy-ass guitar driven madness, with angular bass lines and some off-beat drumming create a sound to be reckoned with.

"Bipolar Bear, led by guitarists Paul Kneejie and Bryan Thadius (both of whom run the Kill Shaman label) massacre Dischord-influenced garage rock in a frenzy of swampy-ass guitar-driven madness, with bassist Luke Birk’s angular lines and Kerri Kirchhammer's off-beat drumming." -- Midhaven Mailorder and Distribution
"A term like “swampy-ass”, which is used on their label’s site, isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of your typical L.A. band; but then again, Bipolar Bear isn’t so typical. Bringing something a little less common to the L.A. scene, Bipolar Bear create their own brand of down-and-dirty, mud hole stompin’, bluesy rock ‘n’ roll. And they do so with angular rhythms and distorted vocals, which lands them somewhere in between traditional-style southern rockers and more modern indie-rock contemporaries. The resulting sound is definitely worth a listen." -- Kinkyorigami.com
"Maybe it’s my Ohio roots, but Bipolar Bear seems just about perfect to me—intelligent, noisy rock." -- Sean Carnage, Il Coral
"Bipolar Bear is a Los Angeles quartet founded by ex-members of The Manifolds, Rose For Bohdan and various other outfits. The band's line-up is said to be hardly stable. And that instability seems to linger through Bipolar Bear's music as every song is an abrasive mix of diverse guitar lines, rhythm changes, enough feedback and a slightly slanting voice that reminds me of Parallels can be drawn with bands as Blood Brothers, The Red Light Sting, Ink & Dagger and Monorchid, yet Bipolar Bear manages to twist and turn itself so much." -- Semtex zine
